Social Security numbers (including spouse and children)
All 1999 W-2 forms
For homeowners/renters:
Residential address(es) for this year
Form 1098, Mortgage interest
Form 1099-S, Sale of your home or other real estate
Real estate taxes paid
Rent paid during tax year
Moving expenses (all related receipts)
For investors:
Form 1099-INT & 1099-OID, Interest income statement
Form 1099-DN, Dividend income statement
Form 1099-B, Proceeds from broker transactions
Form 1099-G, Tax Refunds & unemployment compensation
Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous income including rent
Deductables:
Auto loans and leases -- account numbers and car value -- If vehicle used for business
Form(s) 1098-E: Student loan interest paid
State & local income tax -- your 1997 & 1998 estimated tax vouchers
All IRA contributions made by you and your spouse
Medical expenses aside from payments to an insurance provider (unless you're self-employed)
Casualty or theft losses -- includes major items such as jewelry, art and other valuables lost or destroyed. Documentation such as receipts are helpful.
Records of expenses:
Charitable donations -- you must have receipts for single donations of $250 or more
Unreimbursed expenses related to volunteer work
Unreimbursed expenses related to your job -- travel expenses, uniforms, union dues.
Investment expenses -- accounting fees, financial magazines, investment fees
Job-hunting expenses --such as resume printing, telephone calls, mailing expenses, employment agency fees.
Education expenses -- tuition and fee records, contributions to education IRAs.
Child care expenses -- assistance for a handicapped child, salaries paid to nannies, servants.
If you're self-employed:
K-1s on all partnerships
Receipts or documentation for business-related expenses
If you doing your own taxes, add these items:
All required forms and tax instruction booklets
